When starting a tea packaging brand, many new entrepreneurs make the mistake of buying just one grade of tea and packing it directly. However, the secret behind every successful national brand—from Tata Tea to Wagh Bakri—is expert blending. Blending ensures that your product tastes identical in July as it does in November, despite natural agricultural variations.
The Structure of a Perfect Tea Blend
A professional blend consists of three distinct components:
1. The Base (Body & Thickness) - 40% to 50%
Your base tea provides the "thickness" or "karak-pan". Most North Indian and Central Indian brands use Dooars CTC (BOPSM or BP grades) for this. It gives a heavy, satisfying mouthfeel that holds up well against boiling milk.
2. The Strength (Color & Briskness) - 30% to 40%
To get that bright golden-red liquor, you need strength. Premium Assam CTC is the undisputed king here. While Assam tea is more expensive, mixing it into your base elevates the entire cup, giving it a brisk, lively kick.
3. The Top Note (Aroma & Flavor) - 10% to 20%
The final touch is the aroma you smell when the packet is opened. A small percentage of High-grown Darjeeling Dust or Fannings, or specific fragrant orthodox leaves, provide this signature scent. This small addition makes the tea feel "premium" to the customer.

If you are selling in an area with "hard water" (high mineral content like calcium), you must increase your Assam ratio for extra strength to break through the minerals. If selling in a "soft water" area, a lighter Dooars blend will brew beautifully.
