Guide to Sourcing Tea for Wholesale Business

You can have the best packaging and marketing, but if your tea quality varies every month, you will lose customers. Sourcing is not just bought; it's managed.

Step 1: Identify Your Region's Taste

India doesn't drink the same tea everywhere.

  • Bihar/UP/Jharkhand: Strong, dark liquor (Dooars + Assam Blend).
  • Gujarat/Maharashtra: Very strong, golden liquor (Superior Assam).
  • South India: Often prefers Dust tea or specific local blends.

Action: Send us a sample of the best-selling tea in your area. We will reverse-engineer it.

Step 2: Sample Testing

Never place a bulk order without testing. When you receive samples from a wholesaler:

  1. Check Appearance: Is it black or brown? (Black is better).
  2. Check Smell: Is it fresh?
  3. The Milk Test: Boil it as your customers would. Does it turn pink/red (good) or gray/muddy (bad)?

Step 3: Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ)

Don't overbuy. Tea freshness lasts 6-9 months max in sacks. Start with 100-200kg.

Step 4: Payment Terms

Most wholesale deals in Siliguri are Advance Payment. Credit is only given to long-term partners (3+ years). Scammers often offer credit to lure you in—be careful.
