Starting is easy, but staying legal keeps you safe. Here is your checklist.

1. FSSAI (Food License) - Mandatory

  • Registration (Basic): If turnover < ₹12 Lakhs/year. Cost: ~₹100/year.
  • State License: If turnover > ₹12 Lakhs/year. Cost: ~₹2000/year.
  • Why: You cannot sell food without this. Period.

2. GST Registration

  • Mandatory If: Turnover > ₹40 Lakhs (or ₹20 Lakhs in some states).
  • Voluntary: Highly recommended if you want to buy wholesale from big suppliers (like us) and claim input credit.
  • Tea GST Rate: 5% on Leaf/Dust.

3. Trade License

  • Issued by your local municipality/panchayat to operate a commercial shop.

4. Udyam Aadhar (MSME)

  • Optional but Good: Helps in getting bank loans and government subsidies.
